Senator Debbie Stabenow (D–Michigan) was selected to receive the prestigious Bryce Harlow Award, which honors an elected official whose career is built on championing the principles of integrity, dedication and professionalism — echoing the work and life of the late Bryce Harlow. Senator Stabenow is Michigan’s senior U.S. Senator and a member of Senate leadership, and made history in 2000 when she became the first woman from Michigan elected to the United States Senate. As Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Senator Stabenow authored the 2014 Farm Bill, and coauthored the 2018 Farm Bill, which passed on a strong bipartisan vote of 87-13.  As a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, the Energy Committee, and Budget Committee, she has a powerful and unique role to play in shaping our nation’s health care, manufacturing, energy, and agriculture policies. Senator Stabenow served for 12 years in the Michigan House of Representatives (1979-90) and four years in the State Senate (1991-94). She is a leader in helping businesses create jobs, leveling the playing field in international trade, and ensuring that our workers have the skills they need to excel in the international marketplace.  She is also a champion for health care quality and accessand is committed to bringing veterans the care they need close to home.
